Why isn't my funnel converting?

6 Sneaky Funnel Leaks to Watch Out For

If Your Sales Funnel Isn't Converting, Run It Through This Checklist of Possible Problems

You bought the fancy software, watched the videos, built the funnel, and.... crickets. If the cha-chings you expected aren't coming, then there are six possible reasons why. And it's probably not that you chose to go with High Level over ClickFunnels.

Most funnels leak. Not because they were built incorrectly—but because they were built incompletely.

Why? Because most funnel advocates tell you simply to build a funnel. The better ones at least name different funnel types, such as webinar, lead magnet or freebie, low-ticket offer, high-ticket offer, self-liquidating. But none of them really break down HOW to structure that funnel, what goes into it, how to build the email automations, what tech you really need, how to write high-converting copy, etc. And now that AI is "building" funnels for folks in mere minutes, the problem is getting worse and worse.

So, let's dive into the 6 leak buckets and how you can avoid them.

1. The Clarity Leak

This is when someone lands on your website, social profile, sales page, etc., and cannot immediately tell what the heck your do, who you serve, why it matters, and what the next step might be.

If they have to think, it stinks.

Even a couple of seconds of confusion can result in a lost buyer. So what does a clarity leak actually look like in practice?

  • A headline that could apply to 1000 other businesses ("Get the Support You Need to Thrive" could apply to an IT consultant, a business coach, or a virtual assistant)

  • You're using clever messaging and plays on words that nobody understands

  • You're targeting anyone with a pulse

  • You have too many CTAs or none at all

If you have a clarity leak, your funnel never even gets a chance... because people just check out right away.

What can you do to fix this? Check your traffic drivers, opt-ins, sales copy and see where the messaging is vague. Then clarify your promise, tighten your audience descriptors, and simplify your CTA.

2. The Value Leak

A value leak is when your promise isn’t strong enough to make people give a shit.

You can have glorious branding, stellar copy, and the fanciest tech… but if your freebie, offer, or CTA doesn’t solve an immediate problem your audience has, they won’t take action.

How to tell if you have a value leak:

  • Opt-in rates for your lead magnet are low to none

  • People like your posts but don’t raise their hands for the download

  • Your offer feels more like a nice-to-have than a need-to-have

Value = desire.
Low desire leads to low everything: data, engagement, sales.

What you can do to fix this: make sure you are solving a painful problem for them. And that you're offering what they WANT, not what you think they need. Strengthen the promise. Make it desirable, specific, and immediate.

3. The Trust Leak

Trust has two sides. People need to trust that you can help them, and they need to trust that they are capable of success. To build trust in you, your funnel needs to include:

  • social proof

  • strong case studies

  • compelling differentiators

To build trust in themselves, your funnel needs to:

  • acknowledge what folks have tried (and failed at) in the past

  • reassure folks that they can do it

  • explain why your approach works when so many others haven't

What you can do to fix this: add proof, specifics, and demonstrations of your expertise. Plus, normalize doubt, messy starting points, and show ordinary folks getting real results.

4. The Friction Leak

Every unnecessary click, every broken link, every extra form field is an invitation to someone to back out of the process. Even the most amazing offer in the world won't convert if it feels annoying or intrusive. How many calls have YOU backed out of because they asked you 20 questions on the booking form? Or because you couldn't see all the questions on one screen?

Friction is why people abandon cards, bounce from your website, or ghost after showing initial interest.

What you can do to fix this: make sure you're not making it harder than it needs to be. Streamline the journey, minimize clicks, test tech. Simplify, then simplify some more. It's like that old advice when trying not to overpack for a trip: pack, then remove half of what you packed. Then do it again.

5. The Follow-Up Leak

When people enter your world and then you're the one ghosting them... that's a follow-up leak. If they forget who you are between emails, if you're not staying top of mind to the people who opted in, you sales will always be inconsistent.

This leak alone is responsible for more lost revenue than almost any other.

What you can do to fix this: build a simple nurture sequence and stay in touch with folks after they've opted in.

6. The Conversion Leak

This is where everything looks fine on the outside, but still nobody buys.

Conversion leaks boil down to a few key things:

  • Weak CTA

  • Unanswered objections

  • No sales tension (urgency or compelling reason to buy now)

  • Too much sales pressure (shaming, squeezing, pain-point poking)

  • Pushing a hard sell too soon (not enough nurture)

Your funnel needs to help them feel ready, not rushed.

(Beware of the flip side tho, which is not making offers at all. You DO want to sell, just sell the right thing to the right people at the right time.)

What you can do to fix this: strengthen the close, address fears, make the next step feel safe, obvious, and logical.
